"Perfectly sporty with a retro twist." The Phelix jacket by Knox.
I've always been the type of person that forces myself into a full 1 piece race suit even when I'm just nipping to the shop. I've never known anything other than leathers.. Ok maybe that's a lie, I did go through a phase of wearing textile pants with a leather jacket when I was about 17 but still I've always worn full protective gear.. So as you can imagine this more casual clothing is completely new to me so I wasn't really sure what to expect and maybe a little apprehensive!
The jacket is made with the highest yet softest 1mm thick Aniline leather, high tenacity stretch nylon panelling and a removable real sheep skin fur collar.
The nylon panelling helps provide the perfect fit while making sure you can still move! There is also a dual fit system that enables you to alter the fit on the body and arms to fit more layers and armour under if need be.
The cuffs feature an adjustable closure system meaning you can adjust the fit to your gloves.
The removable collar is something to be desired too, once removed it becomes more sporty so it's nice to have the choice.
There is also a zip on the inside at the bottom of the back so you have the option to attach the zip to some bottoms.
The branding is kept minimal with a badge on the back of the neck and branding on the sleeve fasteners, this can be appreciated if you want to wear this jacket off the bike and for no one to notice it's primarily a bike jacket.
The Phelix is available in Black or Brown, I went for the Black.
The Phelix is one of the outer parts to the Knox "Layering System" again something that's completely new to me. The layering system is built up of 3 or 4 parts base, mid, armour and outer. The idea is to pair this with the Knox Action shirt (see my review of the action shirt here.. https://www.pistonheadchaz.com/single-post/Knox-Womens-Action-Shirt)
combine these together and you have a combination that will not only protect you but you are going to look damn good as well!
Upon first impressions I was immediately impressed with the quality, even the way it was packaged in the Knox branded dust bag and the huge branded wooden hanger. The smell of leather quickly became apparent and usually one would associate that smell with luxurious right? I do anyway..
I got mine in a size XS or a size 8. It's a tight fit but it's figure hugging and makes me look feminine unlike my MENS race 1 piece suit.. I don't open the dual fit sides and I can fit everything under fine. I feel lovely (I would probably go as far as saying classy) in this jacket on and off the bike, I've even worn it out to dinner and no one would have been the wiser. That's the beauty of this jacket it's multipurpose.
Considering I said I felt a little apprehensive at first, Knox quickly reassured me by producing such quality and innovative designs. I'm completely sold on this jacket and the layering system it's self. I almost feel like I've been living under a rock but I'm glad I'm out from under that rock now!
Stylish, protective, convenient and multipurpose.. what more could you ask for.
